This more than any other release from Yves Tumor draws heavily on influences like The Smiths and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Emotional commentary that breathes and moves like ’80s hyper-pop and what we associate with goth. Upbeat with a gritty underbelly that makes the music exciting to anticipate.
Tumor’s voice is crystal-clear and downright lovely at times (“Lovely Sewer,” “Fear Evil Like Fire”). Some of the composition is truly brilliant. Challenging at times, but certainly beautiful in its fire. I liken it to some of Flying Lotus’ later work, You’re Dead and Flamagra, with songs like “Purified by the Fire” and “Ebony Eye.” A fantastical piece of work that is as entertaining as it is fascinating to dissect.
