KATIE falls into a middle ground of R&B from Korea where the music is decent, but not anything that’s not been done before. So in an attempt to separate herself, she sings mostly (if not exclusively) in English. The issue is the lyricism isn’t all that interesting. Granted, it’s no better or worse than what every Top 40 R&B artist from any Western country makes. But that’s not enough for me. I can’t really fault the album for anything. And I have nothing but love for any alto singers who really embrace their vocal warmth. But “Our Time Is Blue” finds itself among the many albums this year that weren’t at all bad. They just weren’t particularly interesting.
